Eileen Treacle (1815 – August 13, 1825) was one of the first settlers in Burkittsville, Maryland in 1824.
Eileen was the youngest of her siblings.
A year after the founding of the town when the crops came in, the town held the first annual Wheat Harvest Picnic near Tappy East Creek. During the picnic, Eileen wandered off towards the water and drowned. Eleven eye-witnesses claimed to have seen a ghostly white hand reach up out of the water and pull her in.
The creek was searched, but Eileen's body was never recovered. Several days later, the creek mysteriously became clogged with oily bundles of sticks,which was found out to have contaminated it, rendering the water useless for thirteen days.
